Faith In Homesteading
Is faith an element in Homesteading? I think those that believe, feel that it is of the highest importance in sticking with a homestead plan. Lets face it, the world has a lot of chaos in it and faith grounds us. It can make us feel that we are not alone in a big scary endeavor like homesteading.
In my case, I am a strong believer, and can’t imagine a life without God. He guides me in my daily routines, and sees me through the dark times too. Many years ago I put my eggs, (my plan) in God’s basket. When “my plan” for the day gets totally disrupted, it helps me to think that God is in control and he will allow me to complete the tasks necessary. This is perhaps my biggest struggle! I like to control my own day. It’s humbling to think that I don’t really have control. But when I stumble and the day is falling to pieces, it brings me comfort to know I have put my eggs in God’s basket. I can rest assured that the eggs will not be broken! The eggs are safe! My spirit is safe, because I gave it to God to keep secure.
Some may prefer to think about a homesteading spirit. An invisible force that picks us up from the brink of disaster, exhaustion and near ruin and gives us resilience and strength. When you are faced with potential loss or disaster your first reaction is not to quit, but to get to work rebuilding.
When we hear sad and tragic accounts of fire, illness, weather disasters, and other natural occurrences, often our first thought is “there, but for the Grace of God, go I”. For not one of us hasn’t imagined how we would feel in similar circumstances.
So, who is holding your eggs? I am confident that good things are still to come.
Is Faith in Homesteading part of your plan?

One of the strongest forces pulling us away from the city and establishing a homestead has been that of faith. As believers we constantly seek to grow our faith, but let’s face it, city life involves so many distractions, diversions and the like that days can go by and you don’t even realize that God was left behind. When we are on our land there is a constant reminder of His grace, divine spirit, creativity and even when things get busy, there are so many reminders of His presence that our spiritual lives can thrive.
